‘Whatever happens in life, the tide will still ebb and flow’ is a metaphor for the inevitable, cyclical nature of change. This metaphor helps put challenges into perspective. A low point in life,
or an ‘ebb,’ is not a permanent state but a temporary phase. The ‘ebb’ phase can also be a time for introspection, learning, and self-discovery.
The knowledge that the ‘flow’ will eventually return, providing hope and peace during tough times. It encourages acceptance, whereby change is a constant part of life. Just as the tide rises and falls.
I find the sea a constant source of inspiration, along with the dramatic coastal cliffs, sea stacks, arches, and geos, with their rich biodiversity of seabirds, marine life, and coastal flora, including distinctive colourful lichens.
The sea and Caithness’s ever changing weather is also a source of enjoyment in all weathers – from galloping along Reiss or Dunnet beaches on my horse, to dog walking and clifftop hikes. I also spend time at my local harbours and beaches searching for driftwood, sea glass and Groatie Buckies!
On a calm day, I find the sea meditative, watching the tide ebb and flow, listening to the sounds of the sea. On a stormy day, I love watching the powerful crashing, white-capped waves, and the weather rolling out to sea.
